House Steward/Assistant Butler

We are looking for a House Steward / Assistant Butler for an estate outside of Yeovil.  You don’t have to have had these job titles before as long as you can demonstrate the transferable skills.  This is a live in position which comes with a two bedroom flat which is currently furnished and has recently been redecorated.  Accommodation is rent and council tax free – Wi-Fi, Electric, Oil, Water and other household costs are not included.
 
You will be required to provide a high level of service and support to the family and guests.  You will report to the Head Butler and House Manager to ensure that all responsibilities are delivered.
 
Other duties will include: 
  • Ensuring that the security of the family and house are covered at all times and ensure all systems are maintained correctly
  • Report any maintenance matters of the house, fixtures and fittings and to arrange and supervisor agreed works
  • Take specific responsibility for the everyday maintenance including minor repairs, picture hanging and equipment repairs
  • To assist in the daily management of the family’s pets including walking, feeding etc.
  • Assist in providing a full butlering service (when required or in the absence of the Butler / House Manager) which will  include:  
    • Receiving guests and callers
    • Attending to meals and functions as required
    • Maintaining hunting/riding/shooting clothes and boots
    • Maintaining and cataloguing of wine and drink stores
    • Maintaining and cleaning all silver
    • Keeping public rooms tidy at all times
  • To open and close the house at the set times and as required
  • To ensure that personal vehicles and the house vehicles (including shoot vehicles) are cleaned and maintained at all times (including during the shooting season), including dealing with service schedules etc.
  • To clean and lay the house fires as required
  • Cleaning of store rooms, garages, Victorian kitchen, picture store and top dusting, as required, and working with the housekeeper where necessary including to help with polishing wooden floors
  • To take responsibility for organizing routine tasks including chimney sweeping, window cleaning and maintaining stock of house consumables such as lightbulbs
  • Remove bottles and newspapers to “recycling banks” as required
This position has a working pattern of 10 days on followed by 4 days off.  You must be flexible as when working you might be required 24/7.  The salary for this position is £30,000 - £34,000 PA.
